MATTRESS MYTHS
Mattress Myth #1:
"The best way to avoid buying the wrong mattress is to stick with a famous brand."
The next time you are shopping for a new mattress and wish to buy a famous brand try finding the same mattress in two different stores. It's an impossible mission.
You will find the same famous brand in many stores, but notice each store has a different "name", a different "cover" and a different "label" for each store they sell to. Why?
The manufacturer wants to make it as difficult as possible for you to compare store "A's" mattress, with store "B's" mattress, even though they manufacture both of them. Some stores need to show higher prices on thier mattresses so they can put them on "sale" and still make a profit. This would not be possible if you could find the identical mattress in a competitor's store. Other retailers make "noise" by guaranteeing the lowest possible prices. How can you challenge them when you can't find the same two mattresses at different stores?
Famous brand manufacturers DO MAKE good quality mattresses. But they ALSO MAKE "promotional" products, made cheaper to go on "SALE".
Mattress Myth #2:
"Its always better to buy a new mattress when they are on sale."
Sorry. The truth is, mattresses are ALWAYS on sale. The proper question to ask is, "When did this mattress ever sell for the "regular" price? The answer is; Never, or at the least, Rarely. Many retailers (including Major Department stores and Furniture Chains) inflate the "regular" prices of their mattresses, so they can offer "sale" prices or "discounts" when they are purchased. That's why a serious mattress retailer will have many models to choose from. This week manufacturer "A's" mattresses are on sale. Next week it will be a different selection. That is why so many mattress salespeople use "high pressure" selling techniques. They need you to make your buying decision right then and there, because they know full well if you go to a competitor's store, you will see what may appear to be an even better "deal".
An educated consumer knows, whoever is selling you a mattress is not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. They are there to make a profit off of you.
Shop informed. Shop intelligently. Don't be bullied into quick decisions. If it's truly a good value, it will still be there tomorrow. Most importantly, find a salesperson you feel you can trust. Choosing the right mattress is critically important in order to get a good nights sleep. And a good nights sleep is a major factor in determining the quality of your life.
